Especially in Manhattan, always think downsize. Houses and town houses are more popular  in the other four boroughs.  Manhattan is all about high-rise apartments and townhouses on the outskirts.  Harlem is all about brownstone buildings. Sorry to disappoint you, but 9 out of 10 times your apartment here is going to be the size of just 1 bedroom in your former house from another state; and cost 5 times as much. Generally, the further downtown you go, the smaller the size of the apartment. The upside being – downtown is the most popular part of the city, and everyone wants to be there. 

Nevertheless, it’s always buzzing with activity, and there’s always something FREE and entertaining to do. Plus, there's always, always, always a sale. New York City is known for its parades.  It doesn't matter the season, though most parades are done in the summer months. There are over 5oo different ethnicities co-existing here. Go figure! On a beautiful summer day you can walk from the Financial District to Midtown in a short space of time. It’s approximately 1/2 hour by train from one end to the next, and buses run quite frequently in every direction.  It doesn't matter the borough you live in, NYC never sleeps.  There are multiple ways to get around and so many things to see.

The Pre-requisites for approval generally include:

• application fee
• last 2 bank statements
• last 2 income tax returns
• last two pay stubs
• picture ID .

Terms of approval vary between landlords.  Some require very few documents while other require a whole lot more. If you are a 'first time employee' in the state or student (you will need proof of an acceptance letter and a GUARANTOR. If you are an International or out of state resident/ student you will need extra security and/ an INSURENT.  Extra security is often a win-win.  Find an expert agent who's familiar with your neighborhood of choice.  This is save you a lot of headache.
